This Easy 3-Ingredient Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken has been my go-to during these hot summer months because it doesn’t require me to turn on my oven. And since it’s been so hot and humid here in Alabama, oven-less meals have been very popular lately!
HOW TO MAKE SLOW COOKER BBQ CHICKEN
All you need are just a few simple ingredients and a crockpot:
- Chicken breast
- A bottle of your favorite BBQ Sauce (I used Sweet Baby Ray’s)
- A few fresh lemon slices
Start by pouring the BBQ sauce into the crockpot. Add in the chicken breast and lemons, and cover with sauce. As the chicken cooks, the lemons will add the perfect balance of tart flavors to the sauce. I got this idea from my Granny. She would always make her BBQ Sauce from scratch and would add lemons to her sauce. She passed away earlier this year, but her BBQ sauce recipe and sweet family traditions will live on forever! 😊

Once all of the ingredients are in the crockpot, cook on high for about 3-4 hours. When the chicken is done, shred and enjoy! This recipe is so easy to make! It’s something that you can toss together in the morning before you go to work, and you’ll have a delicious meal ready for you when you get home.
CAN YOU OVERCOOK CHICKEN IN A SLOW COOKER?
The answer to this question is, yes. Overcooking your chicken will result in meat that is tougher and drier than desired. For best results, be sure to monitor your chicken until it reaches an internal temperature of 160F. And cook the chicken for around 3-4 hours on high, or 6-7 hours on low.

Easy 3-Ingredient Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken
Ingredients
- 3 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 1 bottle of your favorite BBQ Sauce or at least 2 and ¼ cups
- 1 lemon sliced
- Salt/pepper to taste
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients together in a 5-6 qt slow cooker. Make sure that the chicken is coated in sauce. Cover and cook on high 3 to 4 hours or on low for 6 – 7 hours. Chicken is done when cooked through and easy to shred.
